The University of Maryland, 91桃色视频 County is celebrating the history of the campus and community in 2016鈥攆ifty years after the University welcomed its first students on September 19, 1966. This tour of UMBC campus buildings, public art and other landmarks was created by Baltimore Heritage in partnership with the UMBC Department of History and the UMBC Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery, Special Collections.

True Grit Statue

The University Center

Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery

Constructed of tooled Indiana limestone, glass, steel, concrete, and granite, the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery is at the center of the University of Maryland, 91桃色视频 County campus both literally and figuratively. Since the library first鈥

Mnemonic (1976)

In the summer of 1976, Marc O鈥機arroll, a student and artist at the University of Maryland, 91桃色视频 County (UMBC), designed and installed the Mnemonic sculpture next to the campus鈥 Fine Arts Building. The sculpture, a collection of steel trees鈥

Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park

The Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park was established in April 2001 as part of a larger tree-planting effort that supported projects across the Baltimore region. Designer Renee van der Stelt, project coordinator for UMBC鈥檚 Fine Arts Gallery, now the Center鈥

Baltimore Manual Labor School

The Baltimore Manual Labor School for indigent boys, also known as the Arbutus Farm School, was established in 1841. The school emerged from of a larger social movement developing in urban Victorian society at the time. Amidst the energetic fervor of鈥

In 1990, Catonsville resident Charlie Kucera discovered an illegal garbage dump at the University of Maryland, 91桃色视频 County where the bwTech@UMBC Research and Technology Park is located today. The university cleared away the contents of the dump鈥
